Manchester United has had a lot of trouble on the pitch this season, but on the bright side, the marketing department is doing a brilliant job.

The Red Devils are one of the world’s largest marketed clubs who also plays in Nike equipment; however, the current contract between the reigning Premier League champs and the sports brand is set to end this 2015. But, according to a report from the Sunday Express, a new, financially improved contract is being prepared. The length of contract will likely be 10 years, with an annual value of £70 million per year!

It’s not difficult to calculate –  for one new decade in Nike equipment, United will earn £700 million throughout the contract, which is more than $1.1 billion.

If this contract comes to life, it would be a world record between a club and sports equipment brand. Current record is held by Real Madrid and Adidas – Spanish club and German manufacturer have a contract which is a “heavy” £31 million per year.

This contract can be crucial for a desperate Manchester United, as David Moyes will look  to sign a couple of new players after the season is over. The club’s threat level in the EPL has diminished gravely this season; and more-so, signing new top players in the off season can improve the team’s chance to change Ruben Van Persie‘s thought of leaving Old Trafford.
