The Mexico vs South Korea (Corea del Sur) international friendly will be played this Wednesday, January 29, 2014 (6:00 PM Pacific) at the Alamodome. The ‘tricolor’ will officially begin their intense preparations for the FIFA World Cup held in Brazil this June. Meanwhile, South Korea will play their 2nd of three matches against CONCACAF teams this week, also at the beginning of their training for Brazil 2014.

The team coached by Miguel ‘Piojo’ Herrera will play their first friendly match of many almost five months before the start of the World Cup. Mexico was drawn into a tough Group A, which also includes Brazil, Cameroon, and Croatia. Since ‘El Tri’ expects to reach the much desired 5th game, they have scheduled a series of strong international friendlies for preparation.
This Wednesday, South Korea will be their first opponent, and although neither side will have their best team available, it will allow coach Herrera to begin looking at players to determine who is capable of earning a World Cup roster spot. Mexico will be favored to defeat South Korea, however, the score is of poor significance as tactics and individual player performances will be of crucial consideration in this international friendly.
South Korea faced Costa Rica last week in Los Angeles, and won 1-0 in what was a slow match with a poor form on either side. The Asian team is part of Group H which also includes Belgium, Algeria, and Russia. After the match against Mexico, the team coached by Hong Myung-Bo will play the United States on February 1 to end their North American tour.

Mexico and Korea Republic will not be on their top form as each team will use many reserves, while at the same time will use different tactics throughout the game. As a friendly, the score will not be the biggest concern for either coach, but instead, they will focus on formations, styles of play, and individual performances. This match does not land on an official FIFA date, meaning neither side has included players based in Europe.
Considering the circumstances, the match will be good for the fans who like to evaluate tactics, but it will not be a great spectacle. Nonetheless, Mexico has the best talent, and with the fan support, they will begin their World Cup preparation with a win. The Mexico vs South Korea match will end in a 3-1 win for the Aztec team.
