Mohamed Salah is a new Chelsea player, it is noted on their official site: chelseafc.com. The ex-Basel man was a Liverpool transfer target, and Brendan Rodgers was trying for the whole January transfer window to seal the deal with Basel, but they didn’t meet their financial demands.
In the last few days, Chelsea emerged as an interested party, and quickly negotiated with the Swiss side. Apparently, negotiations came to a closure with a success, and Salah became new Chelsea player.
Liverpool fell short – they didn’t want to offer the asking price, which was around 12 million pounds, the Reds stuck with a fee around 7 million. Reportedly, Chelsea offered 11 million pounds with further installments to be paid, based on the player’s performance.
So, Mourinho stole another player from a Premier League rival – last summer he literally hijacked Willian, who came to London to sign the contract with Tottenham but in the end he reached an agreement with Chelsea.
Mohamed Salah is an Egyptian international, he is 21-years-old, and he signed a five-and-a-half-year contract and will wear the number 15 shirt.
He can play down both flanks, as well as an attacking midfielder, right behind an attacker.
He is a versatile player, great technician, he possesses a powerful shot, but he is also a responsible player on the field – if needed, he will provide a good defensive cover for his teammates, which is, perhaps, the main reason why Mourinho bought him. Also, Salah shone for Basel in their Champions league games against Chelsea, scoring a goal in both fixtures, and securing two surprising wins for his team.
