The America vs Cruz Azul Liga MX Week 14 match, the clasico joven, will take place this Saturday, October 19, 2013 (3:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azul. This Mexico City derby has many implications: it is likely the last match Miguel Herrera will coach for America before he heads on to the Mexican National Team, it features two of the best Liga MX teams, and it is the first time America and Cruz Azul face each other since the dramatic Clausura 2013 final. It should be an amazing game.
The biggest headline this week, is of course, the fact that Miguel Herrera will be “loaned out” to El Tri for the intercontinental playoff matches against New Zealand. This means that the match against Cruz Azul will be his last Club America match, at least until he returns for the playoffs. The other important fact to note will be that Cruz Azul will want to get a win against a Club America that defeated them in an incredible Clausura 2013 final.
America is undoubtedly the best team in the Liga MX, so good in fact, that the FMF has decided to basically take all key Mexican Club America players, and have them play in the matches against New Zealand (with a few additions like Oribe Peralta, Rafa Marquez, etc). Club America sits in first place with 31 points, 29 goals scored (second best), 8 goals allowed (1st in league), and as the best away team.
Club America is a very powerful team, and Cruz Azul will definitely have a difficult time looking for the victory. Nonetheless, Cruz Azul is also a talented squad, it has earned 23 points this season, and is just 1 more win away from sealing a spot in the playoffs. Coach Memo Vazquez has been able to resuscitate the team after the disastrous finale in the Clausura 2013; unless he wins the title this season, it is likely Vazquez will be sacked.
Cruz Azul will be missing Joao Rojas and Gerardo Flores due to injuries, all Club America players will be available for the match. With this being somewhat of a going away event for Herrera, it is likely the America players will want to do everything in their power to come up with the victory.
America vs Cruz Azul Prediction
Club America has been on such a role this season, and the players and coach are probably extremely motivated by the fact that they will represent Mexico in the intercontinental playoff, that I just don’t see Cruz Azul winning. Club America will show one of its best matches of the season, and defeat a very good Cruz Azul squad. The America vs Cruz Azul match will end in a 2-1 victory for America.
