The America vs Sporting San Miguelito Concachampions (CONCACAF Champions League) match will be held this Tuesday, September 17, 2013 (7:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azteca. America and Sporting SM share Group 4 with Alajuelense, all teams have played each other once, and all have three points. Club America needs to take advantage of the home field and earn an important victory.
Club America has focused on the Liga MX, where it currently sits in second place with an impressive 19 points earned after just eight matches. However, this has led to America playing its first two Concachampions games with an alternate squad. In its visit to Panama, America was able to earn a key 1-0 away win over Sporting SM. Using a “B” side cost them in Costa Rica though, as Alajuelense took a decisive 1-0 victory over the Azulcremas.
Still, three points earned out of two arduous away games in Central America is not bad. Club America will get to play the last two Concachampions matches at home; if America wins both matches, it will win the group and a ticket to the quarterfinals. The first step towards qualification to the knockout stage must be a victory over the modest Panamanian squad.
Coach Miguel El Piojo Herrera has stated that Club America will field players that did not participate in Friday’s loss against Santos, i.e. the “B” squad. Even though America will not be fielding its best players, it should still be able to earn a victory over Sporting San Miguelito. This same Club America alternate squad was able to achieve an away victory over the Panamanians, it is expected of them to repeat the victory at home.
Sporting San Miguelito come to the Estadio Azteca with the hopes of pulling off an upset, by achieving either a draw or a historic victory. If the Panamanians were to lose against Club America, they would almost certainly be eliminated from the Concachampions.
The Panamanian side will come in good form, as they were able to defeat Chorrillo FC 3-0 over the weekend, in a match disputed as part of the Panamanian league. Sporting SM currently sits in 6th place with 13 points after 10 matches in the Panamanian league.

The America vs Sporting SM match will be a one-sided encounter in favor of the home team. Even though Club America will be playing with an alternate squad, it has enough talent to see off a modest Panamanian side. Look for America to dominate the ball while San Miguelito focuses on defending and counterattacking. The America vs Sporting San Miguelito game will end in a 3-0 win for the Mexican side.
