The Chivas vs Tigres Liga MX Week 9 match will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2013 (5:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey. Both squads are near the bottom of the standings and are in dire need of points; a loss (specially for Chivas) would make a playoff appearance almost impossible.
After seven games, Chivas has only earned five points, scored just five times, and allowed 12 goals. This version of Chivas is one of the worst we have seen in recent time, and that’s saying a lot, considering Chivas has been quite mediocre these past 2-3 years.
Coach Ortgea was brought on to lead Chivas after Galindo left at the conclusion of Week 6. Ortega is yet to win a Liga MX match, accumulating a loss and a draw in the two matches he has coached. Against Tigres, Ortega will have to figure out a way to earn points from an always difficult stadium. Let’s hope all of the mid-week press conferences from Vergara, Fabian, et al have some sort of positive effect on Chivas…

Tigres isn’t doing much better than Chivas, the Monterrey based squad has accumulated just 8 points through seven matches. Although their offense is decent, with 10 goals scored, surprisingly, it is the defense that is holding the team back, allowing 11 goals. Tigres must take advantage of Chivas’ poor form to earn a badly needed win.
Tigres will be missing several key players that are currently participating with the Mexican National Team. Salcido, Torres Nilo and Damian Alvarez will be unavailable for the match against Tigres. Nonetheless, Tigres has a very talented squad that should be able to give Chivas a good fight.

Both Chivas and Tigres have been awful this season, and both know that neither can afford to lose this match. I expect a tight game where neither team tries to do too much on the attack. Chivas will pull back and defend, while Tigres maintains possession but never truly threatens. The Chivas vs Tigres match will end in a 0-0 draw.
