The America vs Monterrey Liga MX Week 9 match will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2013 (3:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azteca. Club America is the undisputed leader and reigning champion of the Liga MX; America has been playing great and is a top contender to once again win the Liga MX. On the other hand, Monterrey has been struggling all season long, and is still adjusting to Profe Cruz.

Club America started off the season with an away draw at Leon, since then, America has won five games in a row, pushing it to first place in the standings with 16 points (and 2 matches still left to play!). Miguel Herrera has done a fantastic job with his team, the offense is firing on all cylinders, currently second best in the Liga MX with 16 goals scored (remember, with 2 less games played than everyone else). The defense is also the best in the league, with just five goals allowed through six matches. At this point in the season, Club America appears to be unstoppable.

However, Club America will have to play without several key members that will be participating in this week’s World Cup Qualifiers. The following players will be unavailable:  Aquivaldo Mosquera (Colombia), Narciso Mina (Ecuador), ‘Maza’ Rodriguez and Raul Jimenez (Mexico). Miguel Herrera has stated (MedioTiempo) that the missing players will be replaced by Erik Pimentel, Rubens Sambueza and Luis Gabriel Rey. Even with the incomplete squad, Club America is still a powerful team.

Monterrey has had a terrible season, earning just seven points through eight matches. The bad form led to the release of long-time coach Vucetich at the end of Week 7, Profe Cruz came on board to take command of the team. Cruz’ debut in Week 8 was lackluster, as Monterrey ended up tying with Atlas at home. Now, Monterrey will have to face the best team in the Liga MX.

Just like America, Monterrey will also be missing several players, due to both injury and participation in World Cup qualifiers. These players will be absent against America: Humberto Suazo, Cesar Delgado (both injured), Jonathan Orozco, Hiram Mier, Severo Meza, and Jesus Zavala (Mexico), and José Basanta (Argentina). The absences on the Monterrey side are serious, and will hamper their efforts against Club America.

America vs Monterrey Prediction

Club America is on a hot streak and has shown no signs of slowing down. Even though America will be missing some key players, Monterrey is without most of its starting lineup. Look for America to dominate possession and take a first half lead that it will not relinquish. The America vs Monterrey match will end in a 2-0 win for Club America.
