Coach Memo Vazquez knows that after last season’s heart-breaking defeat in the final against America, he has no other option than to win the Liga MX if he wants to retain his position. It has been far too many years since Cruz Azul has won a title, and the institution and fans will not tolerate failure. Cruz Azul has the talent to once again make a deep run in the playoffs, and they need to start off a good streak with a win over an extremely weak Atlante.
Atlante can be easily picked out as the worst team in the Liga MX. Through 5 matches, they have lost 4, tied once, allowed 11 goals, and scored just 5 times. Coach Graniolatti is near the end of his tenure, after last week’s 4-2 loss at home against America, another loss here at Cruz Azul must certainly end his run as head coach of Atlante.
It is not all his fault though, the Atlante ownership has done a terrible job at strengthening the squad (i.e. they didn’t). When Kikin Fonseca is the guy leading your offense, you know you’re going to have problems.
