The Honduras vs Trinidad and Tobago Gold Cup 2013 match will take place this Monday, July 15, 2013 (6:30 PM PST) at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.  Honduras won its first two matches and sit in first place of Group B.  Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago only has 1 point and is in last place; but still alive.  The ‘Warriors’ must win to secure a place in the quarterfinals, while a tie will give them hope of qualifying as one of the two best 3rd place seeds.

The top two teams in the group will go through, as well as 2 of the 3 best placed third placed teams in the tournament.  Thus far, Group A has Panama and Mexico qualified as the first and second placed teams; Martinique finished in third with 3 points and a minus 2 goal differential.

Honduras is in a great position as they have secured their pass into the quarterfinals with 6 points; however, they will need at least a point against Trinidad and Tobago to secure the first place.  With a loss, they will finish in first if Haiti does not win.  If Honduras finished in 1st place, they will play either the United States or Costa Rica; if they finish in second, they will face Mexico.

Trinidad and Tobago will face a superior team like Honduras who has not allowed a goal in their first 2 matches.  Although a difficult task, the Warriors could break that defensive barrier as they are similar offensively.  Trinidad and Tobago is eliminated with a loss, and a win could move them into second place of Group B.  If they were to tie, they will require for Haiti to defeat El Salvador, and for Cuba and Belize to tie in their Group C match.

If Trinidad and Tobago finish in second, they will play Mexico in the quarterfinals; if they qualify as a third place seed, they will face either Panama or the winner of Group C (USA or Costa Rica).

Honduras vs Trinidad and Tobago Prediction

Honduras cannot play Monday’s match with their bench for three reasons.  First, they are already playing with an alternate squad.  Second, they have not played in an outstanding form, meaning their bench could cause them a point.  Lastly, Honduras is already in the quarterfinals, but they need at least a tie to secure the group’s first place.  Trinidad and Tobago on the other hand will play furiously, as they will give everything to try and win the game.  A win has them in the next round, therefore there is much hope to remain alive in the Gold Cup.

The match at the BBVA Compass Stadium will have Honduras playing on the counter-attack while the Warriors will attack from the first minute.  That will allow for the Caribbeans to obtain a tie, but not the 3 points.  The Honduras vs Trinidad and Tobago will end in a 1-1 tie.
