The Santos vs Cruz Azul semifinal match ended with a tremendous 0-3 away win for Cruz Azul, which basically puts the Mexico City based team through to the finals. Santos would have to defeat Cruz Azul by either 4-0 (due to higher-seed rule) or 4-1, 5-2, etc (away goal rule) in the return leg at the Estadio Azul. This is an almost impossible task for a team that had one of the worst offenses in the league.
It’s impressive that a match that even the best bookmakers had called too close to call was won by a wide margin. Cruz Azul played to its strengths, and went up against Santos with everything it got, testing and overcoming the best defense the league had seen so far.
