The Deportivo Lara vs Newell’s Old Boys Copa Libertadores 2013 match will be this Thursday, February 21, 2013 (5:15 PM EDT) at the Estadio Metropolitano in Venezuela.  Deportivo Lara (VEN) and Newell’s Old Boys (ARG) will play their second game during the group stages of the Copa Libertadores 2013.  They are part of Group 7 which also includes Olimpia (PAR) and Universidad de Chile (CHI); the top two teams will advance to the final-16.

During their first match this Copa Libertadores 2013, Deportivo Lara played a fairly poor game against Universidad de Chile who just on Tuesday lost 3-0 against group opponent, Olimpia.  CD Lara has to win this match against Newell’s in case they want to qualify into the next round.  That could bring a lot of pressure for the team from Venezuela and at the end this could cost them against a talented Newell’s.

Newell’s Old Boys from Rosario won their first Libertadores match last week when they defeated Olimpia 3-1.  On Wednesday they visit Venezuela with the idea of winning the 3 points as this would put them in first place with 6 points.  Newell’s can expect a CD Lara team to play on the counter-attack, however, considering the talent of Lara, Newell’s has an advantage and could win this match.

Deportivo Lara vs Newell’s Old Boys Prediction

Newell’s Old Boys has a big advantage for this match as they are more talented, they have more experience in tense Libertadores matches, and they are not ‘urged’ for a win.  Deportivo Lara lost their first game, therefore they cannot allow for points to slip while playing at home.  The Deportivo Lara vs Newell’s Old Boys match will end in a 2-1 win for the visitors.
