The Pumas vs Merida (round 2) Copa MX match will be played at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario on Wednesday, January 23rd at 7:00pm PST.
Pumas win or… win
For Pumas, the last 3 weeks have not been good at all. Tying against Atlas, losing against Queretaro, Merida and Tijuana has not been the best start for the new season. However, these bad results are not scaring coach Torres Servin, who says that Pumas has a high morale level and they want to keep working in order to get the results.
Pumas will have to try and play with Luis Garcia and Robin Ramirez to see how these two connect, Torres Servin has to make use of the duet since Bravo is still out injured, if he does then he’ll have more options. The Herrera and Ramirez duo last weekend versus Xolos did not work, because both of them play the same position, thus missing a 10 on the field who would supply the ball in the center.
Merida, going for the whole result
Last week Merida beat Pumas by 1-0, this boosted up their confidence as they took on Irapuato and beat them by the same score in the Ascenso MX this past weekend.
Merida is now committed to do the same again versus Pumas and reach six points in Copa MX, something that would almost secure them a place into next round if they get another victory or a couple of ties.
Pumas vs Merida Prediction
Torres Servin is clearly not sure of what the offensive in the team should be like. Ergo, he has to try and place Luis Garcia and Robin Ramirez and experiment how these two get along in the field, he is certainly running out of options and needs to change the path. For Merida, this is a matter of playing the same as last week and being strong at defense. My prediction of the Pumas vs Merida score is a 1-1 draw.
