A new season of the Liga MX has begun giving us many goals, and several exciting games. Along with the new Clausura 2013, FutnSoccer will post a weekly article with the
The Numbers:
Week 1 of the Clausura 2013 of the Liga MX had a total of 9 games; 4 wins, and 5 ties, with a good average of goals with 3 per game. Monterrey, Cruz Azul, and Tigres were the teams that scored the most with 3 goals each, while Pachuca and Tigres were the only two squads to not receive any.
Players of the Week by Position:
Goalkeeper – Chilean keeper, Miguel Pinto from Atlas, was crucial in his team’s 1-1 tie against Pumas. He made important saves throughout the match that not only named him the player of the game, but which also allowed his team to remain tied against Queretaro in the relegation battle. His good performances could be the difference in relegation at the end of the season.
Defender – Hugo Ayala played a perfect game in Tigres’s 3-0 win against Jaguares. He was key in keeping the clean-sheet and also by beginning several counter attacks in a game where Tigres had a perfect night.
Midfielder – Jesus Molina was phenomenal in his team’s (Club America) 2-1 win against Monterrey. Not only did he score the first goal for America, but he was also a threat on the attack, and recovered many balls on the defensive side.
Forward – Emmanuel Villa scored the 3 goals in his debut that gave his new team Tigres the victory. Those three goals equal his total from last season when he was with UNAM Pumas.
Best Player of the Week:
It is impossible to dismiss the 3 goals scored by Tigres striker Emmanuel Villa in his debut. He demonstrated that he is still the same feared striker as he was with Cruz Azul just a year ago. He scored quality goals with both of his feet, as with his head in a wonderful 3-0 header. This will be a player to watch in future weeks because Tigres is a team with great talent, and great talent leads to goals; question is, will Villa be there to score them?
Team of the Week:
UANL Tigres already took FutnSoccer’s Week 1 awards in ‘Defender of the Week’. ‘Forward of the Week’, and ‘Best Player of the Week’. They also win the best team of Week 1 of the Clausura 2013 because they were a barrier on defense and a constant threat on offense. They defeated Jaguares 3-0 at home at the Estadio Universitario showing the league that they are a title contender. They have quality players in every position, and unlike last season, they have a better offense with Emmanuel Villa and Dainilinho involved.
