Toluca- a win puts them back on top
Toluca is currently in the 2nd place of the Liga MX standings with 26 points, just three behind Xolos, and with an extra game at hand. A win would place Toluca in the first place of the standings, due to their higher goal differential over Tijuana. Toluca has had an outstanding season, and has been excellent at home: five wins and a draw.
This is a key match for Toluca, as a win puts them in first place of the standings, and just a couple more points away from securing a Copa Libertadores berth. Furthermore, if Toluca were to finish in the 1st place spot, it would guarantee them the home-field advantage for the entirety of the playoffs.
Santos – having a strong finish
Santos has recuperated from a sluggish start, and appears to be finishing the season in strength. An away win against Toluca would definitely prove that the defending champions are back in form, and strong contenders to win the championship. Although, a draw would also be an excellent result, considering that Toluca is one of the best teams in the tournament, and is yet to lose at home.
After Toluca, Santos close the season off with away matches in Monterrey and Morelia, and a home game against Cruz Azul. That’s a pretty tough schedule. Although I don’t doubt Santos will make the playoffs, it will be a bit of a challenge to end in the top spots.
