Mexico roster chosen for October World Cup Qualifiers

Mexico vs USA 2020

Chepo de la Torre has decided who will be on the Mexico Roster for the CONCACAF Qualifying matches against Guyana and El Salvador on October 12, 2012 and October 16, 2012 respectively.

Goalkeepers: Guillermo Ochoa, and Alfredo Talavera

Defenders: Severo Meza, Israel Jimenez, Jorge Torres, Francisco Rodriguez, Diego Reyes, Hector Moreno, Hiram Mier, and Adrian Aldrete.

Midfielders: Elias Hernandez, Javier Aquino, Angel Reyna, Gerardo Torrado, Carlos Peña, Jorge Enriquez, Hector Herrera, Andres Guardado, and Sinha.

Forwards: Oribe Peralta, Aldo de Nigris, and Chicharito.

There are definitely some major changes with this version of the Mexican national squad (don’t forget that Mexico is already qualified to the final round of the CONCACAF qualifiers).

Major Absences: Giovani dos Santos is out due to injury. Pable Barrera is also out with an injury, as well as Marco Fabian (not 100% back). Carlos Vela is still not being called, looks like Chepo has some serious issues with him still (same thing with Jonathan dos Santos).

Major Surprises: Carlos Peña from Club Leon has been called up to the national squad. But the main surprise is the call-up of 36 year old Sinha from Toluca. Sinha is an old friend from Chepo’s tenure with Toluca, and though Sinha has been in good form, it’s hard to understand why Chepo would call a player that won’t make it to the World Cup. Maybe a goodbye tour?

Overall, this version of the Mexico roster still looks solid, containing seven players who won the Gold Medal this past summer. I would expect them to finish the last two games with six more points.
