Liga MX Apertura 2012 Team by Team Analysis – C.F. Monterrey

Throughout the first semester of 2012, Monterrey played one of the best soccer in Mexico.  Having an over-talented squad with star players like Humberto Suazo, Aldo De Nigris, and Angel Reyna, the regiomontanos conquered the CONCACAF Champions league by beating another Mexican power Santos Laguna.  At that point Monterrey let everyone know that they were still a threat in the league and evidently they were by classifying to the playoffs as second in the table standings with 32 points, just four below Santos Laguna.  In the playoffs Monterrey beat Xolos and Club America but lost the final against—once again—Santos Laguna, being unable to end a majestic semester.

Although Monterrey were not able to defeat a better Santos, they had an amazing season which they hope will translate into the Apertura 2012 of the new Liga MX.  The rayados did not make any player signings other than Edgar Solis which will go unnoticed, but they did transfer back-up forward Othoniel Arce and veteran captain Luis Perez.  There were no signings unlike all the other top teams, however, coach Victor Manuel Vucetich will make an intelligent gamble with what he has as there is more than enough talent to try to repeat what he made in the first semester.

Monterrey is a strong squad that has played together for several years.  With no new players, this team will be led by one of the best forward duos with De Nigris and Suazo, while Reyna and Cesar Delgado will push the attacking midfield.  This team is one of the favorites to win the Liga MX, and see them to repeat something similar to the Clausura 2012.
