Cruz Azul will strengthen its defensive line by bringing in Luis Amaranto Perea, the Colombian player is an experienced central defender who will be leaving Atletico Madrid. The 33 year old Perea had been at Atletico Madrid since 2004, but had not been a regularstarter in the Madrid squad, starting just 11 matches this past season. However, he gained plenty of experience while at Atletico, playing in 224 league games, 34 cup games, and 66 European competition games.
Amaranto Perea is still a starting defender for the Colombian national team, and has plenty of ability to earn a starting spot with Cruz Azul. He will be a welcome addition for the Mexico City side, as he will be Waldo Ponce’s replacement in the central defense.
Perea will join Mariano Pavone as the new additions to Cruz Azul, a side that will be expected to surpass the previous season’s result and at least earn a berth to the playoffs. Cruz Azul still has one more spot left for a foreigner, and rumor has it that it will be an offensive minded midfielder. The Cruz Azul squad is shaping up nicely, they should be a leading contender to make the playoffs in the Apertura 2012.
