Like him or not, Diego Maradona is undeniably one of the most important figures in the world of football and he is also undeniably making an impact on Dorados de Sinaloa.
Since taking over the second-tier Mexican side on September 17, 2018, Maradona has only lost two games and has led the team from Culiacan to the Ascenso MX final. El Gran Pez defeated Zacatecas in the quarterfinals, FC Juarez in the semifinals and recently won the first-leg of the final against San Luis.
Dorados de Sinaloa defeated Atletico San Luis 1-0 at the Estadio Banorte in Culiacan this Thursday, November 30, 2018. Edson Rivera scored the game-winner in the 74th minute in what was a hard-fought and thrilling encounter in Sinaloa.
The match was so intense that Diego Maradona was suspended from the clash as the Argentine icon argued with referees and San Luis coach Alfonso Sosa. “El Diez” gave quite a show for the fans as he was escorted off the pitch, which caused complete chaos in the stadium.
Maradona will not be present on the sidelines for the return-leg in San Luis as Luis Islas and Mario Ortiz will need to guide Los Sinaloenses to an Ascenso MX title. Still, it should be interesting to see Maradona possibly celebrating on the Alfonso Lastras pitch after the match.

Winning the Ascenso MX title does not guarantee a spot in the Liga MX just yet, but instead offers a spot in a final played at the end of the next season to achieve promotion. If Maradona and Dorados can win the Ascenso MX title this season and the next that will also secure promotion.
