The most anticipated game this weekend in the Liga MX is the “Clasico Joven” between Cruz Azul and Club America at the Estadio Azteca. Both teams have had a history of great players and several that have played for both teams, here are seven that have played for both Mexico City giants.

Pablo Aguilar

The Paraguayan centre-back has found success with every Liga MX team he has played for and is now a key figure in Cruz Azul’s backline. Before joining La Maquina this season, Aguilar did play with Las Aguilas from 2014-2017, where he won a Liga MX and CONCACAF Champions League title.

Adrian Aldrete

Aldrete joined Cruz Azul in 2016 and has become a fan favorite because of the grit and effort he displays in each game. The 30-year-old fullback has a couple of league titles including one with Club America in the 2013 Clausura season.

Carlos Hermosillo

Hermosillo is one of the best players in Los Cementeros’ history with over 150 goals, but did begin his career with Club America in 1983 and went on to have another stint with Las Aguilas from 1999-2000.

Sebastian Abreu

Abreu is still going strong with his 27th club in his career and did play with both Cruz Azul and Club America in his road to his Guinness World Record. “El Loco” scored 34 goals with La Maquina from 2002-2003, but only scored three goals for Los Azulcremas in a brief loan spell in 2003.

Matias Vuoso

The Argentine striker lived his best moments with Santos Laguna, but managed to score 27 goals in two different stints with Club America. Vuoso was downright awful with Cruz Azul as he only scored five goals in 27 games from 2015-2016 towards the end of his career.

Francisco Rodriguez

After his tour in Europe, “Maza” joined Club America in 2013, where he won a league title, before joining Cruz Azul. Rodriguez did not have a great tenure with Los Celestes and it seemed like his career was coming to a close, but he is now a consistent starter and team captain for Lobos BUAP.

Christian Gimenez

“Chaco” shined with Veracruz early on in his career and that earned him a move to Club America in 2005. Gimenez was a bust for Los Azulcremas, but went on to have a magnificent career as he reached icon status with both Pachuca and Cruz Azul.
