Diego Maradona says Lionel Scaloni is “unfit” to manage Argentina

Dorados de Sinaloa played the Tijuana Xolos in a friendly match at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana this Friday, October 12, 2018. Diego Maradona did attend a post-game press conference after his team defeated Club Tijuana 1-0 and had some interesting things to say.

Among them was a nab at the current Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni. Maradona said, “Lionel Scaloni is a great kid. I would have a barbeque with him or drink some coffee. But I hope he does not talk to me about the Argentina national team, because he is unfit for it.”

Scaloni had an extensive playing career from 1995-2015 and is currently the interim manager of the Argentina national team. He is unlikely to stay on as a permanent option for La Albiceleste, but is certainly still in the running for the job given that he is the current coach.

Diego Maradona is not afraid to speak his mind, but this comment is disrespectful given that Scaloni is much more likely to stay on as Argentina’s manager than Maradona is of ever getting that position again.
