PSV Eindhoven recently announced the signing of Erick Gutierrez from Pachuca, which was a move that had been anticipated for a while now. The Mexican midfielder was reunited in Holland with his former  Pachuca teammate Hirving “El Chucky” Lozano.

Gutierrez became the sixth Mexican player to sign for PSV and the 10th Mexican player overall to reach the Dutch Eredivisie. The players that have preceded Gutierrez at PSV include Hirving Lozano, Carlos Salcido, Andres Guardado, Francisco Rodriguez and Hector Moreno, who also played at AZ Alkmaar.

All players enjoyed relative success with the team as all players except for Francisco Rodriguez won at least one league title with the team. Andres Guardado and Carlos Salcido both won two league titles with the Dutch giants in two distinct eras. Hirving Lozano just won his first Eredivisie trophy with PSV as he keeps on scoring goals and is becoming a star.

The other Mexican players that have played in Holland include Jesus Manuel Corona at Twente, Uriel Antuna at Groningen and Ulises Davila and Joaquin Del Olmo with Vitesse. Del Olmo was the first-ever Mexican player to play in the Eredivisie with Vitesse back in 1996 and he did manage to score four goals in 15 total appearances.

Gutierrez is now the latest PSV signing as he seems more than ready to make this jump with plenty of Liga MX experience. At just 23-years-old “Guti” was Pachuca’s team captain as his abilities and leadership were beyond his years. Gutierrez should aim to make the type of impact Andres Guardado made in his time with PSV in a similar position in the midfield.
