Wolves and Raul Jimenez prove that they are ready for the Premier League

Mexico vs USA 2020

Wolverhampton Wanderers put last week’s 2-0 loss against Leicester City behind them, as they defied the odds and earned an impressive 1-1 draw against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.

Prior to the game, most pundits would have not given Wolves any chance of picking up something from the match. City came into the encounter on the back of a good run of form, after recording convincing wins against Arsenal and Huddersfield Town during their opening two matches.

However, Nuno’s side fought hard and did not let their mightier and fancied opponents get the better of them. The 27-year-old Jimenez thought that he had given Wolves the lead during the 20th minute, but was flagged offside.

Jimenez could have again given his side the lead during the 38th minute, but his effort sailed wide off the post.

During the 57th minute, Wolves took the lead, albeit luckily, as Wily Boly’s goal was allowed to stand despite the ball having struck the hand of the player before crossing the line.

Manchester City managed to find an equalizer during the 69th minute through an unlikely source in Aymeric Laporte.

Pep Guardiola’s men were unlucky to have not made it three wins in a row after a free-kick from club talisman Sergio Aguero struck the post.

This is certainly a result which Wolves can take much inspiration and heart from. They are next in action against struggling West Ham next Saturday. They can realistically target a win against the Hammers, considering that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are clearly struggling defensively, after having lost all three of their League games thus far.
