Rangers have been a different team under manager Graeme Murty, with a different and hungry squad emerging since he took over.
The Ibrox outfit are also learning how to hold on to their best players, showing their strong resolve by rebuffing an £8million bid for striker Alfredo Morelos last month.
There are plans to hand the 21-year-old Colombian an improved contract, but it’s the extension of the deal of right-back James Tavernier that’s currently being worked on.
The 26-year-old has played more league games than any other Rangers player this term, and has been one of the side’s most important players.
Murty revealed talks over a new contract for Tavernier, whose current deal ends next year, are ongoing.
“There are ongoing discussions with James. As far as I am aware he loves it here,” said the manager.
He also claims the former Newcastle and Wigan man is the best in his position in the land, saying: “I actually had a chat with him about full backs in England and the manner in which they approach training and their life. I personally think he is the best right back in the country.
“He possesses physical and technical attributes of the highest standard. We have to then get the rest of him up to that standard.
“If we do that then even though we are discussing a contract with him now, his aims could be fulfilled by him maximizing what he does.”
The English fullback has weighed in 5 goals thus far in the league and remains one of the reasons Rangers are pushing for a top 2 finish.
Having Tavernier for the long-term will no doubt be of great benefit to the Light Blues in their mission to start winning silverware again.
