West Ham had the most underwhelming of transfer windows in recent times, with the deadline day arrival of Jordan Hugill from Preston the only first-team acquisition the club made last month.
At the exit end, the striking duo of Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho departed for Swansea and Rennes respectively.
While the sack of Tony Henry – former director of player recruitment – following claims he told agents the club do not want to sign any more African players due to their troubles, also highlighted what a window it was for the Hammers.
Club owner David Sullivan has promised things will change in subsequent transfer windows, though, as the club manager(s) will have a huge say in the final decision makings as far as signings go.
He recently told West Ham TV: “I’m going to delegate the whole thing to a huge analysis and scouting system with a new head of recruitment.
“We’ll have a massive video analysis department, increase the scouting department, every player will be looked at five or six times.
“We will not be signing a player that the manager hasn’t seen play, and we hope we will spend our money better.
“We’re not going to spend money just for the sake of it. We’ve got a very good team when everybody’s fit.”
Moyes surely didn’t see Hugill play, while same can be said of the majority of the signings made under erstwhile boss Slaven Bilic.
The Hammers will hope to do well in the market come summer, and fans can be rest assured a player that hasn’t convinced the manager first-hand won’t be getting signed.
