Championship side reportedly tried to hijack Grabban’s move to Aston Villa

The Bristol Post have revealed that Aston Villa managed to beat the competition from Cardiff City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Bristol City to secure the loan deal of Lewis Grabban from Bournemouth.

According to the same reports, the Robins manager Lee Johnson wanted to bring the powerful striker at the Ashton Gate Stadium.

However, Steve Bruce gave his maximum to bolster his attacking ranks with a top-notch striker after Jonathan Kodjia suffered an injury, and eventually won the race for 30-year-old forward’s signature.

The Lions had been looking to sign Leonardo Ulloa from Leicester City for the most part of the winter transfer session, but the Argentine striker ultimately decided to return to his former team Brighton & Hove Albion.

Grabban has spent first half the season at Sunderland, where he bagged twelve goals in 19 league games. Aston Villa fans can only hope that the former Rotherham United player would be able to perform at the same level.
