As per the Evening Times, Rangers have cooled their interest in Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones after their £350,000 opening offer got knocked back.
Manager Graeme Murty had the Northern Ireland international forward top of his wishlist for the January transfer window, but the Ayrshire outfit reckon he is worth much more than what the Light Blues are offering.
Killie boss Steve Clarke insisted the offer was ‘nowhere near acceptable’, and Rangers now appear to be concentrating on other targets instead.
Despite bringing in a winger – Jamie Murphy – earlier in the window, Murty wants another cover for the in-form Daniel Candeias on the flanks.
However, with around £1million being quoted for Jones, it’s only normal for cash-strapped Rangers to back out of the race.
The Middlesbrough academy graduate is also attracting Burnley, Norwich and Hull City, but it remains to be seen if any of the English trio is still in pursuit.
Jones’ pace, creativity and skills would come handy at Ibrox if a deal were to be struck, but another player of top quality can be landed for a reasonable fee.
