According to the Birmingham Mail, Leeds United officials are seriously considering Middlesbrough’ outcast Adam Clayton, who is also on Aston Villa radar for quite some time.
The same source suggests Nottingham Forest could try to sign the former Huddersfield Town player after Aitor Karanka identified him as a potential target.
Clayton is destined to leave Riverside Stadium this January. He has been out of favor with both Garry Monk and Tony Pulis, who has only used him as a late substitute.
The 28-year-old midfielder already played at Elland Road, and manager Thomas Christiansen would like to bring him back in this transfer window.
However, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is also looking to improve his team by signing Clayton ahead of the Premier League’ promotion battle.
Because of the Financial Fair Play rules, he is forced to execute loan deals only, which could benefit Leeds, as they are ready to sign the player on a permanent deal.
However, both clubs should watch out for Forest involvement, as Karanka may spoil their plans.
