Northern Ireland star claims imminent Rangers addition will be an Ibrox success

Rangers will recruit the services of former Falkirk assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl as boss Graeme Murty’s right-hand man this week, and there are high hopes at Ibrox over the appointment of the Northern Ireland assistant.

With Murty set to be in charge until the end of the season, a top number 2 is needed and the club have decided to land the 61-year-old Nicholl.

Norwich goalkeeper and Northern Ireland Michael McGovern reckons adding the former Rangers defender to the backroom is a clever move from the club, claiming their latest addition will be a hit at Ibrox.

McGovern said of the imminent appointment: “It’s a clever move from Rangers because you’ve got Graeme Murty who is a young coach and Jimmy could complement him with his wealth of experience.

“He has obviously been at Rangers as a player during a fantastic career that also saw him play for Manchester United and at the World Cup with Northern Ireland.

“His CV means he will command instant respect from all the players in the dressing room and he’s a really positive influence about the place.

“The fact he wants to be involved and on the training pitch every day shows the enthusiasm he has for the game and it’s infectious. So he’ll be a great appointment for Rangers.”

With his wealth of managerial experience that has spanned over two and half decades, Nicholl brings a lot to the table.

Murty is new to the job on a permanent basis, and with a veteran to support him, chances are he will perform beyond expectations.
