Rangers recently had their annual general meeting of shareholders and fans are hoping a new manager is appointed as soon as possible.
Portuguese tactician Pedro Caixinha was dismissed after an unimpressive 7 months in charge 5 weeks ago, and the club board claims a search is still on for his successor.
The Light Blues chairman Dave King revealed the reason it’s taking forever for an appointment to be made is because the club aim to make sure they are fully convinced of the perfect and chosen candidate.
King made a somewhat bizarre revelation, though, that becoming the number 1 club in Scotland, a non-negotiable mission, remains the board’s target.
To that end, the chairman claims the new manager will be strongly supported in the transfer market, and not even the experience with Caixinha will make them hold back.
The Portuguese invested heavily in the summer, spending over 10million to bring in 11 new players.
King reassured fans via Rangers TV: “How we invested this summer won’t make us more cautious in terms of making funds available because we have to make funds available; if we don’t then we aren’t going to become number one in Scotland. That is a non-negotiable.
“Where we have to be a little bit more cautious is in that as much as we felt Pedro was the right person for the job and at this stage we are looking for more British and Scottish experience.
“We are more cautious in whom we are appointing but we are not going to be more cautious in supporting the manager with investment.
“We are going to back whoever we appoint, as we did with Pedro.”
Despite recent comments from Aberdeen and their manager Derek McInnes that he’s committed to the club, the Dons boss remains Rangers’ favourite to take charge at Ibrox.
Erstwhile Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is now the bookies’ 2nd favourite, while the club’s former manager Alex McLeish is also amongst the many candidates linked with the job.
