Rangers were every inch superb against Aberdeen during Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Ibrox, but can they play like that till May or even repeat such incredible performance one more time?
Interim boss Graeme Murty was quick to claim the perfect and impressive win over the Dons must be the benchmark performance for the Light Blues going forward, but for all his optimism and hope, it’s simply impossible.
Rangers have been inconsistent as they come this term, and it shouldn’t, and won’t, come as a surprise if they produce an underwhelming performance at the weekend against the very same opponents they just tore apart.
Everyone is still waiting for the 3 consecutive wins, and maybe “benchmark” can be talked about afterwards.
This Rangers team still need a top manager and top players to compete and challenge, and a one-off performance shouldn’t fool everyone.
Wednesday’s game remains the Gers best 90-minutes in a long time, and if they are somehow able to punch above that weight every other game, they will actually give Celtic the run for the money.
This team will have to prove they can do just that all over again for at least 2 more 90 minutes on a roll.
Benchmark? Isn’t it too early to start setting one?
