Ex-Leeds United star surprised that this player has not stopped Whites’ slump

Football pundit David Prutton has revealed that he is surprised that Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson has not managed to drag the team out of their poor level of recent performances.

After making a promising start to the season, the Whites are currently languishing in 10th position on the Championship standings and have taken 23 points from their 16 games thus far.

Jansson is a key member of the club’s first team and was impressive last season, winning a place in the Championship team of the season.

The Sweden international has however struggled for consistency this season and was even dropped by manager Thomas Christiansen for a few games.

Prutton believes that Jansson is currently short of confidence and feels that his side are missing out on a vocal presence.

“Maybe there is a shout to have a bit more experience there. It’s about being able to guide the rest of the team,” Prutton wrote in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We thought perhaps Pontus Jansson would have been a player like that but he is struggling for form and confidence and when you go through the middle of the team and they are all like that it seems a case of players looking around and looking for someone to dig them out.”
