Ex-Aston Villa manager keen on Scotland national team job

According to reports, former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is interested in the vacant Scotland national team managerial position.

Scotland are currently without a manager after they parted ways with Gordon Strachan after failing to secure qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

Lambert has also been without work since leaving Wolves in May and now appears to be interested in the Scotland managerial position.

Another man who has also highlighted that he is interested is Alex McLeish. The 58 year old McLeish has a vast knowledge of Scottish football having managed extensively in the country with the likes of Motherwell, Hibernian and Rangers and that could give him an advantage.

Lambert said: “I played for the national team, it is my country, so you do maybe think ‘Let’s have a look’. I wouldn’t ignore people. If they ask me to speak to them, I would speak to them, of course.

“If I was on the board picking the national manager, I would go Scottish. I would say ‘What has gone wrong in the last 20 years and what can we do to try to do it better?’”
