Rangers are yet to find a replacement for dismissed manager Pedro Caixinha, and as speculations continue to grow as per whom could be succeeding the Portuguese, former Dutch international Ronald De Boer has weighed in his opinion.
His twin brother Frank got fired at Crystal Palace 4 games into the current campaign, and is in running for the national team job once outgoing manager Dick Advocaat leaves.
However, when asked if Frank could agree to manage Rangers instead, Ronald replied: “The Dutch team will be one of Frank’s things ‘to do,’ but if a big club came knocking on the door that would be very difficult to say no to.
“It would be the same with Rangers, he would think about it for sure, he had a great time there although it was a short spell.
“I don’t know. Rangers is a challenge, it’s a helluva task as we have seen over the last few years that there is no stopping Celtic, so it is a challenge. But, I don’t know if he is, at this moment, ready to take that challenge.”
De Boer was a huge success during his time at the Ajax dugout, winning 4 Eredivisie titles on the tear before deciding to seek for bigger challenges.
However, 85 and 77 days in charge at Inter Milan and Crystal Palace respectively haven’t done his c.v any good, and if Rangers will be keen on taking a gamble on the ex-defender who played 15 times for them in 2004 remains to be seen.
