As per ESPN, Australia national team manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on the Rangers job, as he has plans to return to club football following 4 years on the international scene.
The 52-year-old Greek-born Australian won’t be leading his country to Russia 2018 should they see off Honduras in this week’s World Cup play-off, and could start life as new Gers boss after the international break if appointed.
Postecoglou once managed Australia’s under-17’s and under-20’s before his appointment as head of the Socceroos, and also has a lot of experience in club football.
The ex-Australia defender was once in charge of South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory in his country, and also had a stint with Greek side Panachaiki.
Postecoglou helped South Melbourne to the NSL Premiership, 2 NSL Championships and the Oceania Club Championship in the late 90’s, before guiding Brisbane Roar to an A-League Premiership, 2 A-League Championships, and the longest undefeated streak in Australian sporting history in 36 games in 2011–12.
The Asian Cup-winning manager has all the experience needed to excel at club level once again, but with the Rangers board keen on a manager with English football experience, it doesn’t seem Postecoglou has a chance.
