According to The Times, former England manager Steve McClaren has joined the list of likely candidates to succeed Pedro Caixinha at the Rangers dugout.
It’s understood that talks between the Ibrox club and the 56-year-old, who recently managed Newcastle and Derby County, will take place this week.
McClaren is currently a coaching consultant with Israeli outfit Maccabi Tel Aviv, and chances are he would be keen on returning to British football.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes remains the bookmakers’ favourite to replace the dismissed Portuguese, but with Rangers’ chances of luring him to Glasgow appearing slimmer by the day, attention might be switched to McClaren.
However, given that he mostly got sacked at various clubs and with the Three Lions, his appointment seems a huge risk and gamble.
The Rangers board under Dave King’s regime has shown all 3 managers employed since March 2015 the exit door, and they can’t afford not to get it right with their next appointment.
