West Ham man willing to prove a point despite possible January exit

West Ham youngster Reece Oxford has vowed not to take the easy route out from his current woes at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 19-year-old is yet to kick a ball in the Bundesliga since moving to Germany on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window, and rather than look forward to January when he can cut short the deal and go elsewhere for regular playing time, Oxford is willing to fight and prove his worth.

The England youth international defender told Bild (via ESPN): “It’s true that I have this option to return to West Ham early, but I am not looking at it, rather that I finally play for Borussia.

“I am only focused on training and a possible appearance. I will work hard to get my chance here, and then I want to take it.”

Since his famous Premier League debut on the opening day of the 2015-16 season, Oxford has failed to live up to the hype, managing to play just 5 Championship games for Reading during the latter half of last season having found it hard to remain in the Hammers first-team plans.

The move to Monchengladbach was supposed to help inject much-needed life to a stuttering career, but it’s been a frustrating start to life at Germany for the young defender.

Nevertheless, that the Golden Boy nominee has elected not to chicken out is a promising sign, and the next two and half months will go a long way in deciding his immediate future.
