West Ham criticized for their handling for star attacker Javier Hernandez

Former Manchester United coach Mike Phelan has said that West Ham are not getting the most out of striker Javier Hernandez because they are not supplying him with enough opportunities.

During his four seasons with Manchester United, the Mexican international found the net on a regular basis and helped the club win two Premier League titles.

After arriving at the Hammers during the summer, Hernandez is struggling to hit the ground running and has only netted three times from 10 games.

Phelan, who served as assistant boss to Alex Ferguson at United when Hernandez was playing for the Red Devils, stated that Slaven Bilic needs to make his side supply more opportunities to Hernandez to get the most out of the striker.

He said: “If you’re looking for a centre-forward with a history of scoring goals, it doesn’t get any better than Javier.

“But there is another side to it: Can you provide the service for him to score the goals? If the service is there for Chicha in and around the 18-yard box, you can guarantee he’s one of those players who will hit the target more often than not, which means he’ll score more goals than he’ll miss.”
