Why Carroll’s absence could help West Ham finally get it right in front of goal

West Ham striker Andy Carroll is set to sit out of Friday’s clash against Brighton at the London Stadium due to his suspension, and his absence could prove crucial in allowing manager Slaven Bilic get it right in attack.

While it could work in the future, the Carroll-Chicharito partnership isn’t at the moment, with the duo yet to score in any of the 4 games they have played together – twice in a 2-man striking system.

Bilic hasn’t given Diafra Sakho any chance to start a league game, but the Senegalese recent form shows he deserves the opportunity.

There is no reason he shouldn’t be paired alongside the Mexican should the manager deploy a double-striker game plan.

Should a single striker be used, then Chicharito should be flanked by Michail Antonio and Marko Arnautovic, with Manuel Lanzini behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Having averaged just a goal per game thus far, West Ham surely need a change of plans upfront, and if that will require dropping Carroll for now, then the manager shouldn’t hesitate to ruffle feathers in order to save his side’s stuttering campaign.
