Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that a formation change was key to helping his side secure a 1-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
The result brought much relief to Spurs fans as it was the clubs first League win at Wembley Stadium which is being utilized as their home venue for this season.
Due to the absence of Ben Davies, Pochettino had to change his side’s formation and utilized the 4-3-2-1 formation as compared to the 3-4-2-1 which he normally uses.
When it became apparent that Spurs were struggling to get past the Cherries defence, Pochettino switched to a 3-4-2-1. The switch paid off as Christian Eriksen scored the winner early on during the second half.
Pochettino said after the game about his change: “They [Bournemouth] played so deep in the first half and we made some mistakes in the first half with our positioning and offensive set-up and we found it difficult to move the ball quickly and break them down.
“In the second half we worked and tried to fix that, we made some changes to our formation in possession and I think that was good because we began to dominate and create a lot of chances.”
