Football pundit David Prutton has criticized Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald for his performance during the Whites defeat against Sheffield Wednesday and said that the German has a lot to prove.
Wiedwald endured a nightmare in goal as Thomas Christiansen’s side were convincingly outplayed and ended up losing the game 3-0.
Wiedwald was appointed first choice goalkeeper for this season replacing veteran shot-stopper Robert Green who has since moved on to Huddersfield Town and though the German has kept an impressive six clean sheets in goal during the early parts of the season, he looked shaky against Wednesday and the flaws in his game could be starting to be present.
Prutton said, “What I have heard is some chatter about the performance of Christiansen’s goalkeeper, Felix Wiedwald, and I can’t deny that something about him created tension on Sunday. He didn’t look strong enough for the first goal and there seemed to be a lack of decent communication throughout.
“Of all the players at Leeds, Wiedwald arguably had the most to prove this season because of the fact that he was replacing Rob Green. It’s too early to pass a definitive verdict on him but he has to control his box better than he did against Wednesday.”
