Leeds star reveals Christiansen’s attitude is proving key to players’ performances

Leeds United maintained their position atop the Championship log following a 3-2 victory over Ipswich on Saturday.

The win means the Whites have now scored most goals (17), conceded the 2nd least goals (5), drawn 2 and lost 1 in all 9 games played.

Early indications continue to hint at a Premier-League-finishing spot for Leeds come May, and new manager Thomas Christiansen has no doubt had a great impact on the team.

While he has changed the way the Elland Road outfit play, a lot of what goes on in the background and during training isn’t known to the public.

Leeds defender Liam Cooper lifted the lid on the Spanish manager, revealing how much his behavioral pattern is positively affecting the performances and playing abilities of the players.

When asked ahead of the Ipswich game how Christiansen is as a person, the Scottish centre-back told BBC Radio Leeds: “He has got a dry sense of humour. He has few of the lads giggling but he is just very calm.

“He’s a calming influence around the players, he never raises his voice or anything like that. I think if he did want to do that, he would say it to me or one of the senior lads.

“I just think he’s a calming influence and that definitely rubs off on our performances as well. I think we’re playing in a calm way as well.”

The former AEK Larnaca manager led APOEL to the Cypriot First Division league title last season, and having found profound success with his style before, Leeds would hope he helps to finally lead them back to the topflight.
