It’s been a new-look Rangers since manager Pedro Caixinha went about giving the Gers squad a face lift over the summer transfer window.
11 new signings were made, while 22 players left Ibrox on temporary and permanent exits.
Amongst the outgone players is midfielder Barrie McKay, who Nottingham Forest snapped up for £500,000.
Having been deemed surplus to requirements by Caixinha, former Gers boss Mark Warburton, who now manages Forest prised the attacking midfielder from Ibrox, and to say the 22-year-old has been in fine form since switching club would be stating the obvious.
The Scotland international has scored 2 and assisted 2 in 5 Championship outings thus far, and is already looking like one of the bargains of the summer.
At least, it’s what Sky Sports pundit and former Stoke City player Danny Higginbotham attests to too.
From getting frozen out of the first team at Rangers, to becoming one of the key players of a Premier League-chasing team overnight, it’s been a mixed 6 months for McKay.
Higginbotham believes: “It is McKay who has caught the eye and looks a bargain at £500,000.Warburton knows him first hand and that is a big help.
“McKay has a great range of passing, is two-footed and suits Forest’s expansive style of play.
“When he goes down the right he also has a wonderful delivery, which is ideal for a targetman like Murphy. He has an eye for the spectacular, too.
“At 22 he should only improve as well and could play a key part in returning Forest to the top flight after too many seasons of underachievement.”
While Rangers have also started well in the Scottish Premiership, with only a loss in 4 games, McKay’s presence could have helped them out even more.
In 140 games for the club, he scored 20 goals and assisted 39 times.
His exit hasn’t in anyway left a huge hole in the club, though, and him and Caixinha might have never clicked.
Nevertheless, McKay’s start to life in the Championship would have left many a Rangers fans wondering what might have been.
