Manchester United star compared to Rooney by manager

England manager Gareth Southgate has revealed that youngster Marcus Rashford has what it takes to rival Everton star Wayne Rooney.

Rooney is widely regarded as being one of the greatest players of the modern generation and is also the all-time leading goal scorer for both the England national team as well as Manchester United.

The 19-year-old Rashford scored the winner for the Three Lions against Slovakia and many have drawn comparisons between him and the likes of Michael Owen as well as Rooney.

While talking about Rashford, Southgate has now compared the youngster to Rooney by saying, “I am sure from his point of view he would rather be compared to them than not.

“He is obviously a different type of player. He is as mature as they were in terms of their understanding of the game and the way he picks concepts up.”

Rashford is scoring goals at a young age in a similar way to Rooney and Owen and there is a good chance that he could go on to play many games and score many goals for his country.
