West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass completed a season-long loan move to Championship side Aston Villa towards the end of the summer transfer window, and it doesn’t appear he’s keen on returning to the London Stadium.
The 29-year-old joined the Hammers on a three-and-a-half-year deal for a fee of £10.2 million in January, off the back of an impressive campaign with Hull City during the first half of the 2016-17 campaign.
However, Snodgrass neither scored nor assisted in 15 league appearances across all competitions, despite finding the back of the net 9 times just months before with the Tigers.
The Scotland international forward has revealed manager Slaven Bilic’s decision to play him out of position was the reason for his disastrous stint with West Ham.
According to him: “I was coming on against City and he said ‘Where do you want to play, on the left or right?
“I thought ‘You have just signed me and I have played on the right or behind the striker at Hull City all season’. That was my debut and alarm bells were ringing right away.
“I found it very strange and I realised from the off that it wasn’t going to happen. Every time I played I was on the left. I don’t know why he did it.”
Having failed to get the best out of the former Norwich City man, Bilic brought in Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City in order to shore up his attack.
Snodgrass is now looking to put his West Ham woes behind him, and he believes Villa Park is the right place for him to get back to his best.
“I know myself that when there is a manager that knows how to get the best out of you then it’s different, and that’s why I chose Villa. I wanted to work with Steve Bruce again”, he said.
“Villa is a great club, a massive club. Steve Bruce has told me what he wants to do. I am part of his long term plan to be part of that in the league then we will take it from there.”
