England legend questions the credentials of West Ham star

Joe Hart

England goalkeeping legend Peter Shilton has predicted that Joe Hart will not remain England’s first choice goalkeeper for much longer.

Hart has come under scrutiny due to the poor form of West Ham in the Premier League as the 30-year-old has so far conceded ten goals from just three games in the League, with his side losing all their matches.

Despite this fact, Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate kept faith in him and he started during his country’s victory against Malta last Friday.

Shilton believes that this could work against him and said, “Joe [Hart] is what he is and until now he hasn’t been challenged for his place with England.

“He’s a good goalkeeper, like Tom Heaton, but nothing more than that. And now his place should be under serious threat.

“He was very lucky to keep his place in Malta, where he had little to do. I expect he will have more action tonight against Slovakia when his performance will come under scrutiny.”

Hart has had to leave Manchester City on loan for two seasons in a row in order to play regularly after being deemed surplus to requirements at the club when Pep Guardiola became manager and it clear to see that he has regressed in recent times.
