Why Leeds’ defensive target failed to move during the summer transfer window

As per Somerset live, Bristol City centre-back and Leeds United target Aden Flint wasn’t able to complete an Elland Road move on or before summer transfer deadline day due to his club’s £5million asking price.

Flint, 28, was targeted again by the Whites as early as July this summer, but Bristol were unwilling to lower their price all summer.

The English defender was also targeted by Birmingham City – who had 3 bids, including a £3.5million’s knocked back, Fulham, Middlesbrough and Norwich City.

West Bromwich Albion and Celtic were also both linked with a transfer deadline day move, but Flint will now remain at Ashton Gate until January at the earliest.

In the end, Leeds turned their attentions to other defensive targets when it became clear Bristol City weren’t going to shift grounds.

Manager Thomas Christiansen eventually secured a loan move for Everton’s Matthew Pennington, but saw a late injury to Arsenal youth player Krystian Bielik scupper another season-long loan for another centre-back.

With 3 wins and 2 draws in their league campaign thus far, it doesn’t appear Leeds badly need an Aden Flint, though.
