According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers failed to land Hearts winger Jamie Walker on summer transfer deadline after refusing to agree to a player-plus-cash deal with their Premiership rivals.
Gers’ boss Pedro Caixinha was very keen on luring the 24-year-old to Ibrox, but had 2 bids rejected as the Jambos held out for £1million for their man.
The Portuguese boss now has to wait until January, when Walker is set to sign a pre-contract with Rangers before completing a move on a free next summer.
Had the Ibrox outfit agreed to add a player to the deal, Hearts would have consented to lowering their initial asking price.
The trio of Danny Wilson, Jason Holt and Joe Dodoo – who will now lineup for Charlton until January – were all touted as possible makeweights in the deal to convince Hearts into selling Walker.
Despite their inability to land the player, Rangers did pretty well in the summer market, spending well over £10million in the recruitments of 11 signings as Caixinha oversaw a massive squad facelift.
With Walker now set to arrive for free next summer, Rangers have definitely overseen the shrewdest of transfer deals for the quality Scot who can improve their squad immediately.
He returned 15 goals and 7 assists last season, including a brace in a 4-1 league victory over Rangers, and while he is without a goal or an assist in 5 matches for Hearts this term, he undoubtedly remains a fine player capable of proving his worth in a big club.
