According to ex-Rangers defender Hugh Burns, Rangers striking summer signing Alfredo Morelos has got what it takes to take the league by storm.
The 21-year-old Colombian arrived Ibrox from HFK Helsinki for £1million and has already hit the ground running, scoring 3 goals in as many Scottish Premiership starts, as well as a brace in the 6-nil League Cup win over Dunfermline.
Burns, 51, reckons Morelos can be the 20-goals-per-season striker the Gers have long yearned for, but believes his prolific form would also come at a cost, as opposition defences would now have to pay keen attention to him.
Talking to Herald Scotland, Burns claims, “Morelos really looks the part up front.
“The only problem now is that people will start sitting up and taking notice of him now, especially if keeps scoring regularly – and I think that he will.
“I’m certain he’ll bag 20-25 goals this season but he is more than a predator. His touch is good, he can hold it in and he’s brave too.”
Morelos caught the eyes of manager Pedro Caixinha following his 27 goals in 42 league games for Helsinki over the course of his 2 seasons in the Finnish Veikkausliiga top division.
The Colombia youth international would hope to maintain his form, and perhaps he could have an outside and slim chance of making his country’s standby squad for next year’s World Cup.
Liam Boyce, formerly of Ross County emerged the division’s highest goalscorer last term with 23 goals, and that Morelos can grab at least 20 more goals in the remaining 34 games looks feasible.
Perhaps, he could help Rangers challenge Celtic for one of the 3 trophies available for grabs this term.
