According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers have turned down a loan deal that would have taken summer arrival Euciodálcio Gomes back to Portugal, despite joining the Gers just a few weeks ago in June.
Dálcio arrived Ibrox from Benfica on a season-long loan deal, but has failed to impress in any of his appearances for manager Pedro Caixinha’s men.
The Portugal youth international was hence linked with returning home, but that was ruled out by Rangers, and the 21-year-old is now set to remain part of the squad for the 2017-18 campaign.
Dalcio has yet to make his official bow for Benfica, spening the last 4 years with the Portuguese giants’ B team and on loan with Primeira Liga minnows Belenenses.
Since making his debut in utterly disappointing fashion for Rangers against Progrès Niederkorn in the first leg of qualifying round of Europa League, Dalcio has only featured in further 3 games for the Gers.
He came on in the 2nd leg but couldn’t contribute something tangible as Rangers lost 3-nil on aggregate, while he wasn’t that impressive as well in the Premiership wins against Ross County and Motherwell.
However, it would be too quick to judge Dalcio’s season off his poor start to life in Scotland.
He remains a promising youngster who could do with more playing time considering the hassles and stresses that come with changing leagues.
