West Ham reportedly rejected player swap deal involving versatile Serie A midfielder

According to Sky Italia reports, West Ham have rebuffed an attempt by Inter Milan to get defender Angelo Ogbonna in a proposed swap deal involving Croatian international box-to-box midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

Despite leaving Juventus 2 summers ago, Ogbonna, 29, isn’t keen on a Serie A return, and it seems Inter would have to look elsewhere for the defensive reinforcement they so crave before the transfer window shuts.

The Italy international has become a mainstay in West Ham’s first team since completing a £10million 4-year move in 2015.

Having impressed in his first 2 seasons, the Hammers handed Ogbonna a contract extension until 2022 in June.

His willingness to remain in the Premier League as opposed to falling for the temptation of returning home should be a big boost to manager Slaven Bilic’s squad.

Despite another poor start to the Premier League campaign, in which they have shipped 10 goals in their opening 3 games, Ogbonna is expected to play a huge role in helping the London Stadium outfit turn their fortunes around after the international break.

He has played every minute of West Ham’s dismal performances, and despite the fact that Bilic might be willing to add more reinforcements in the mould of compatriot Brozovic, a swap deal has been effectively ruled out with Ogbonna’s and the club’s stances.
